Founding of the DLG Working Committee South-East Asia
In the course of AGRITECHNICA ASIA 2022, the DLG country working group for South-East Asia has been founded. The initial meeting took place in Bangkok on May 26th. The objective of the working group will be to gather agricultural experts from all countries in South-East Asia to work on solutions for pressing topics in the region. The regional scope comprises Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Indonesia and Thailand.
Dares Kittiyopas, President of the Thai Society of Agricultural Engineering (Thailand), has been elected first chairman of the new committee. Kittiyopas has served in multiple roles for the Ministry of Agriculture, the Department of Agricultural Extension (DOAE) and the regional association for agricultural machinery in South-East Asia (ReCAMA).
From the DLG side, Katharina Staske and Erik Guttulsröd are the Managers of the committee. Staske is Managing Director of DLG Thai Co., Ltd., and in this function, she is responsible for the AGRITECHNIA ASIA show in Bangkok. Guttulsröd is the Head of the Division Operations Management and Sustainability at the DLG Competence Center in Frankfurt Main, Germany. He is in charge of international competence activities.
The challenges in the region are linked to global trends and issues. Environmental sustainability, climate change, digitalisation / smart farming, forms of cooperation to increase economic efficiencies were among the topics discussed at the first meeting in May.
The South-East Asian Working Committee will define focus topics and work plans in their next meeting. Potential products and outcomes of the working group could be publications, podcasts, conferences, videos and other formats such as roundtables. The working group will report to the DLG committee on international partnerships and provide new insights and information from the region.
Following the setting up of the DLG Expert Committee for Eastern Europe in 2018, this committee is now the second international country working group globally extending the network and delivering specialist cooperation under the motto “Understanding Global Farming”.
