DLG: Agricultural trade fairs in Africa and Asia

The German Agricultural Society (Deutsche Landwirtschafts-Gesellschaft – DLG) has been organising trade fairs and exhibitions for the agricultural and food sector since 1885. These events serve as a forum for ideas, innovation and networking, internationally, nationally and regionally.

Initially, starting in 1885, the DLG exhibitions were held in Germany. At AGRITECHNICA and EuroTier, also in Germany, the DLG brings together international exhibitors and visitors, presenting current trends, issues and strategies in the agricultural sector.

Recently, DLG started to organise agricultural shows in various countries in Europe, Africa, and Asia.

AgriTech Expo Zambia – 2nd–4th April in Chisamba/Zambia

The first show in the series of international DLG exhibitions in 2020 is AgriTech Expo Zambia, to be held in Chisambia from the 2nd to the 4th April 2020. Presented by the Zambian National Farmers’ Union (ZNFU), and organised by DLG Agriculture Ltd., the Zambian subsidiary of DLG, AgriTech Expo Zambia is one of the leading outdoor agriculture machinery and equipment trade fairs in the East African region.

According to Jervis Zimba, President of the Zambia National Farmers’ Union (ZNFU), “AgriTech Expo is an expo with a core mandate to forge mechanisation and technological advancements among farmers with the aim of improving production, productivity and efficiency in this evolving world of discerning consumers that demand quality and proficiency”.

In 2019, AgriTech Expo Zambia welcomed over 18,500 visitors and 220 exhibitors across various sectors such as seed producers, chemical fertilisers, irrigation, machinery, construction, etc. Since its inception, the DLG had been responsible for organising the German Pavilion at the trade fair. Now, in the 7th edition of the trade fair in April 2020 DLG has taken over the overall organisational responsibilities.

Agritechnica Asia 2020 – 7th–9th May – in Bangkok/Thailand

The agricultural machinery exhibition Agritechnica Asia will take place for the third time in the Thai capital of Bangkok from the 7th to the 9th May 2020. The show will offer the sector in the region a comprehensive display of machinery suitable for efficient and effective crop production.

Agritechnica Asia will again benefit from the co-location of Horti Asia and Systems & Components Asia. Forteen thousand farmers, service providers and dealers from all over the Asia-Pacific region are expected to meet 350 exhibitors from 29 countries.

The comprehensive conference programme of Agritechnica Asia will take advantage of the support of ministries and regional agricultural organisations. While the International Rice Research Institute (IRRI) is to focus on precision farming and digital solutions in rice production, the Thai Society of Sugar Cane Technologists (TSSCT) will address this topic for the sugarcane industry. Further conference sessions range from alternative pesticides to vertical farming and suitable investment models.

One of the highlights will be the Asian Horticulture Congress under the theme “Asian Horticulture for a Sustainable World”, hosted by the International Society for Horticultural Science.

Both trade fairs are jointly organised by the DLG and the Dutch-Thai exhibition organiser VNU Exhibitions Asia Pacific. The official co-host is the Thai Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives.

EuroTier China 2020 – 7th–9th September – in Chengdu/China

The second edition of the trade fair EuroTier China will be held in Chengdu, China, from 7th to the 9th September. The first edition, which saw over 22,000 trade visitors and 300 exhibitors coming from 40 countries, took place in Qingdao China in September 2019.

EuroTier China is set up as the ideal place to do business for the animal farming industry in the country. The show is organised by DLG International in partnership with the Chinese Animal Husbandry Service (NAHS) and China Feed Industry Association (CFIA).

The People’s Republic of China, in addition to being one of the leading producers and importers of animal protein in the world, is in the process of transforming the industry as a whole. With the introduction of new animal feed component regulations in line with more stringent standards on environmental and animal welfare, not to mention the recent bio security challenges and diseases, the Chinese livestock sector is in a rapid transition process.

The opportunities for good business partnerships and transfer of know-how into the Chinese livestock sector are continuously rising. Among the reasons are the growth of large-scale farming and the increasing demand for new and innovative technology and services.

EuroTier China serves as a forum where all the different players from government and industry, experts and, most importantly, the farmers come together.
