The 2008 food price crisis resulted in food riots in over 30 countries. It increased political focus on food and nutrition security and led to a series of international, regional and national initiatives to increase security. This paper provides summary details of ten of these initiatives, six international and four at regional level.

Whether these initiatives impact positively or not will depend on three factors: whether food insecure developing countries provide a supportive policy framework to increase food and nutrition security;  whether donor countries deliver on their commitments to increase aid flows; how national and aid resources can combine to produce short and long term improvements in food and nutrition security. Each of these factors should be closely monitored.
