Sarwan and Gandhiji Songha, in the states of Jharkhand and West Bengal, were adopted as 'Millennium Villages' by Welthungerhilfe in 2006 along with 13 other villages in Africa, Asia and Latin America. With dismal social indicators, they became a test case for the achievement of MDGs and serve as examples of how effective intervention with the consent and participation of the local population can bring about change. The article details how the two villages stay committed to MDGs and serve as a model for future action.
