Towards microfinance at the service of health: Spirulina production in Burkina Faso

Spirulina is a high-quality alga produced in Burkina Faso. Given its unique nutritional composition, spirulina plays an effective role in the recovery of undernourished people or people with weak immune systems. With this in mind, two French and one Burkinabe association have partnered in order to create a project to promote spirulina and provide nutritional advice in rural areas. Local microfinance groups are encouraged to receive training to become spirulina vendors and nutritional advisors. This income-generating activity helps diversify local employment and has a positive impact on the community's health.
