Education and skills - crucial for rural development

The rural world is changing rapidly, and young people need to be prepared to rise to the new challenges and opportunities. In this context, the education sector plays a crucial role in making rural areas more attractive again to young people. This involves providing a basic education that motivates them to study, relevant vocational training to give them skills for the agricultural and in the nonfarm labour market, and opportunities to pursue higher education. In addition, since young people in rural areas are particularly vulnerable of dropping out of school, second-chance opportunities are key.
