The World of Organic Agriculture

Global organic agriculture continues to grow, as the latest data on organic farming worldwide in this publications shows. It reveals that 2018 was another record year for global organic agriculture.

The 21st edition of the study The World of Organic Agriculture was launchend by FiBL and IFOAM – Organics International mid February 2020 at the BIOFACH fair in Nuremberg, Germany. 

This annual survey on organic agriculture worldwide is supported by the Swiss State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO), the International Trade Centre (ITC), the Sustainability Fund of Coop Switzerland, and NürnbergMesse, the organizers of the BIOFACH fair.

According to the report, organic farmland worldwide increased by 2.0 million hectares, and organic retail sales also continued to grow, reaching another all-time high, as shown by the data from 186 countries (data as of end 2018).

The publication presents the results of the survey on organic agriculture worldwide in numerous graphs, tables, maps and infographics providing detailed information on the latest developments in organic agriculture in Africa, Asia, Europe, Latin America and the Caribbean, North America and Oceania.

Moreover, it includes chapters on the global market, standards and legislations and policy support, and a chapter on organic cotton.
