Connecting global priorities: biodiversity and human health: a state of knowledge review

Experts warn that caution must be taken to ensure that interventions made in the name of biodiversity, health or other sectors do not compound but rather help to face the public health and conservation challenges.

According to the report, Connecting Global Priorities: Biodiversity and Human Health; biodiversity, ecosystems and the essential services that they deliver are central pillars for all life on the planet, including human life.
The report published by the World Health Organisation (WHO) and the Secretariat of the UN Convention on Biological Diversity in June 2015,  focuses on the complex and multi-faceted connections between biodiversity and human health.

It outlines the ways that the conservation and sustainable use of biodiversity has positive impacts on human health; including through impacts on water and air quality, nutrition, non-communicable and infectious diseases, and medicines, among others.
However, biodiversity loss is happening at unprecedented rates, impacting human health worldwide warms the report.

The first integrative reviews of its kind, the report brings together contributions from over 100 scientists and practitioners in the various scientific disciplines including; public health, conservation, agriculture, epidemiology and development.
