A new online tool to calculate and map water footprints was launched by the Water Footprint Network at World Water Week 2013.

Water Footprint Network, a non-profit foundation under Dutch law, launched an online tool to calculate and map water footprints, and assess their sustainability at World Water Week in Stockholm, Sweden in September 2013.

The Water Footprint Assessment (WFA) Tool 1.0 was created by Water Footprint Network in collaboration with the University of Twente and three funding partners: DEG (Deutsche Investitions- und Entwicklungsgesellschaft), IFC (International Finance Corporation) and Unilever. These, plus World Wildlife Fund for Nature, The Nature Conservancy, Alliance for Water Stewardship, and Pacific Institute/CEO Water Mandate, formed the Advisory Board, which guided the development of the tool.

The WFA Tool 1.0 is free and can be used by anyone interested in sustainable, efficient and fair water use. It provides them with clear insight into how water is used and the impacts resulting from those uses.

The tool allows users to quantify and map their water footprints.
