First DLG Livestock Expo in Zambia

In parallel to AgriTech Expo Zambia, DLG-International organised the first Livestock Expo, which took place in Chisamba, Zambia, on the premises of the Golden Valley Agriculture Research Trust (GART). Both exhibitions are being held in co-operation between the DLG and the Zambian National Farmers Union (ZNFU). 120 businesses presented their products and services at the two events. Around 11,000 specialist visitors from all regions of Zambia came to Chisamba, and the exhibition attracted both commercial agricultural entrepreneurs and smallholders. All visitors shared a keen interest in new and forward-looking technologies. 

At the Livestock Expo, German enterprises above all included those in various areas of livestock production and livestock management, barn equipment, husbandry technology, fodder storage, training and consulting. They were very satisfied with the feedback that their products and services enjoyed. Zambia’s considerable agricultural potential and its excellent climate conditions, which were also attracting more and more farmers from abroad, were stressed in particular.

On the final day, Zambia’s President Edgar Lungu and Zambian Minister for Agriculture and Livestock Given Lubinda as well as ZNFU President Evelyn Nkuleka, who is also President of the World Farmers Union, visited the exhibition grounds. President Lungu thanked the German exhibitors for their efforts to extend the range of products and services in terms of quality. “With Livestock Expo Zambia, we are offering the target groups from animal husbandry and management a unique information platform to enter the market in Zambia, and we are going to develop it step by step in future with our strong partner, the ZNFU,” noted DLG International Managing Director Bernd Koch.

Zambia’s Vice-President Inonge Wina also came to Chisamba and took part in several events with the two expos. Germany’s Minister of Agriculture Christian Schmidt came with a delegation of members of the German Federal Parliament and German industry. The German delegation also came to visit the opening of the Agricultural Knowledge and Training Centre, a project aimed at sustainable training for Zambian farmers and imparting modern agricultural engineering for crop-farming. The project, conceived for an initial three-year period, is being funded by the German Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture and the Golden Valley Agricultural Research Trust (GART).
