The bioeconomy is a modern and sustainable approach to an economy centring on an efficient use of biological resources such as plants, animals and microorganisms. It can contribute to coping with key challenges such as climate change, food security and the conservation of natural resources. This dossier explains how the bioeconomy can strengthen rural areas, what its potentials are in implementing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and which challenges have to be mastered in this context.
