- Integrating "education for sustainable development" into the "education for all" agenda was a declared goal of the 900 experts meeting at the World Conference Center in Bonn, Germany, from 31 March to 2 April 2009, as the ''Education for sustainable development" decade, invoked for 2005-2014 at the United Nations Conference on Environment and Development in Rio de Janeiro in 1992, moved into its second half.
The 900 delegates from 150 countries attending the Bonn conference took stock of the situation and concluded that the principles of "education for sustainable development" are an essential element of quality education to meet the demands of today's globalising world.
