Rising global fuel prices have brought biofuel to the forefront of energy crisis management plans around the world. However interest and advances in biofuel production have also posed potential threat to food security. The long-term success of Biofuel production hinges on countries understanding the environmental and social benefits of the Jatropha and following multi-pronged strategies for efficient production. They need to assess the status of local food security and should not replace staple crops if there are indications of local food insecurity. Jatropha based biofuel production can very well be integrated in the energy policies of countries across the world.
