The government insists that the devices only be used in schools, with several pupils sharing one device, while the initiators feel that a key feature of I-slate is that every pupil has his or her own device and can also take it home.

I-slate is now under commercial production in Singapore. The initial price was fixed 48 US dollars. According to PingalI, I-slate is a model that can be replicated across the country and will change the face of education in India. It will open up a new channel and approach to education by enabling children to self-learn and become independent. Pingali adds that I-slate could also be applied in poor remote communities around the world, thus helping to close the digital divide that is still prevailing.
